You may have seen the commercials running on this station with various businesses congratulating our very own Karin McCay and Abner Euresti as the Lubbock Area Foundations 2008 Heros. What the commercial doesn't give in detail is more about what the Lubbock Area Foundation does.
The foundation is a charitable institution dedicated to helping people on the South Plains. They provide funding to other non-profit groups to help with their important work. Organizations like the South Plains Food Bank, United Way, and the Boys and Girls Clubs. They also provide educational opportunities to family members of fallen soldiers who are from this area.
They raise money for those projects by honoring people who share their same commitment. That's why I think Karin and Abner are a perfect fit this year. So congratulations to Karin and Abner - it's an honor well deserved!
And consider this; I think the Lubbock Area Foundation is a good example of a group of people who just want to make Lubbock a better place for my kids and grandkids.
