The prosecution had two witnesses on the stand Thursday. While one explained the trauma on Summer Baldwin's body the other witness outlined what Rodriguez did when he returned to San Antonio as her autopsy was being performed.
The final day of testimony began where it left off Wednesday as former Lubbock Medical Examiner, Dr. Sridhar Natarajan, detailed the autopsy he performed on Summer Baldwin back in September of 2005.
In his testimony, Dr. Natarajan said Baldwin may have actually been alive when she was put into the suitcase. He added that the causes of death were blunt force trauma and asphyxiation, but he cannot be sure which action killed Baldwin. The doctor also testified that Baldwin was 10 weeks pregnant. Graphic pictures of the fetus where shown to prove the baby was alive and well when Baldwin was killed.
The second witness for the day, and the prosecution's final witness, was the Lubbock police detective who examined Rosendo Rodriguez's computer and cell phone. The detective says, according to information on the computer's hard drive, the first website Rodriguez visited when he returned home to San Antonio after Baldwin died was kcbd.com.
The hard drive indicates he went to our website to search stories about the death of Summer Baldwin. Testimony shows he viewed video stories for about 5 minutes and then went to another website to check his email and look at social networking and dating websites.
During the detective's testimony, he also gave details about Rodriguez's cell phone use the day Summer Baldwin was killed. We learned that while Rodriguez was at Wal-Mart allegedly purchasing the suitcase Baldwin was found in, he received a text message from a girl named Lupe who called Rodriguez her boyfriend.
Friday morning the charges against Rodriguez will be read, there will be closing arguments from the prosecution and defense and then the jury will leave to deliberate.
NewsChannel 11 will be in the courtroom and we'll bring you the latest Friday on NewsChannel 11 at 5, 6 and 10.
