After only two hours of deliberation, a Randall County jury found Rosendo Rodriguez, 28, guilty on two counts of capital murder.
Rodriguez killed Summer Baldwin and her unborn child in a Lubbock hotel room in 2005. A Lubbock medical examiner testified that Baldwin may have been alive when Rodriguez stuffed her body in a suitcase, and tossed it into a dumpster.
Her body was found in the Lubbock landfill the next day.
Following a short recess, the jury will begin hearing testimony in the punishment phase of the trial. Prosecutors are requesting the death penalty.
