A Randall County jury took only two hours for deliberation on Friday to return a guilty verdict in the Rosendo Rodriguez Capital Murder trial. Rodriguez was found guilty of two counts of Capital Murder for the killing of Summer Baldwin and her unborn child.

In closing arguments by the prosecution, Lubbock District Attorney Matt Powell called Rodriguez "True evil."

Defense Attorney Rick Waldroup said, "The case isn't about who did it but rather what happened." He tried to prove Baldwin was never raped, and that Rodriguez used self defense against Baldwin.

The jury did not buy it. After the verdict was announced, Summer Baldwin's Mother, Uvah Robak said she was pleased with the verdict and that it has been a long time coming.

The punishment phase also started Friday, and the prosecution presented its first four witnesses. The trial will resume Monday morning in Canyon.
