Harvard scientists have captured images of the brain that could rival Mother Nature's rainbow, but they're calling this technique, "Brainbow".
In much the same way a television mixes red, green and blue to make a wide range of colors, Brainbow uses genes encoding green, yellow, orange, and red fluorescent proteins to tag neurons with about 90 distinct colors.
The idea is that Brainbow will help scientists chart and better understand the circuitry of the brain and nervous system.
