Semi Runs Stop Sign in Dense Fog, Collides with Van

Two people are hospitalized after a weather related accident Monday morning. DPS Corporal John Gonzales said that the semi was southbound on FM 168 around 7 a.m.

The truck driver was on his way to Ropes ISD to deliver a truckload of frozen food for the cafeterias, when he missed a stop sign in the thick fog.

A van traveling westbound on FM 1585 had the right of way, slammed into the side of the trailer and rolled into a field.

Passenger Gilbert Castillo of Borger, was thrown from the van. He is now listed in critical condition at Covenant Medical Center. Another passenger, Miguel de Leon, is in serious condition at University Medical Center.

The driver of the van, John Rudisill, remained in critical condition at UMC Wednesday, according to family. Rudisill is from Louisiana.

The driver of the semi, Robert Baca, 33, of Lubbock, was treated and released from Covenant. He was then arrested for an outstanding warrant and taken to the Lubbock County Jail. He has since been released.
