At 11:00 a.m. Thursday, cell phones began ringing across the Texas Tech campus, and it was no coincidence.
The ringing telephones were part of a planned test of the university's communication system. Students, faculty, and staff can opt to receive these messages on their campus email, or by text message on cell phones or pagers.
The system was first implemented last fall to alert the campus community about various emergencies, like crime or weather.
