Lubbock Daycare Destroyed by Fire May Soon Rebuild

A Lubbock daycare that burned down two years ago may soon rise from the ashes.

Investigators say arson was to blame for the fire at Southwest Private School, but no arrests were ever made in the case.

The lot at 38th and Quaker has since reverted back to residential zoning, but on Tuesday the city's planning and zoning board approved a request by the daycare's owner, Celia Pruitt, to rezone for a new childcare facility. Residents say there is a need for more childcare in the area.

The Lubbock City Council will need to give final approval, before construction can begin.
