6th and 8th Grade Girls Learn About Women in Science - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

200 rural middle school girls were asked to consider a future in science Saturday. The girls gathered at the Science Spectrum Saturday to take part in Women in Science Endeavors.

It's a new program designed to bring awareness and interest to educational and career opportunities not traditionally pursued by women that come from rural backgrounds.

The girls heard from women who currently have careers in medicine, engineering, ecology, atmospheric sciences and more.

The girls also had the chance to make their own high end fashion lip gloss at Saturday's event. The exercise was aimed at teaching the girls how it takes science and creativity to make products they use on a daily basis.
