The No. 2 ranked Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals (37-1, 21-0) broke the school record for consecutive wins with 29 in their 11-0 run-rule domination of the College of the Southwest Mustangs Tuesday afternoon at Hays Field.  LCU followed up with a comeback victory for their 30th straight win in a 9-3 decision over CSW in the second game of the doubleheader.  The wins broke the school record of 28 wins which had been set in 1978, 1982 and Saturday following a 15-14 win over No.5 Oklahoma City University.

It didn't take long for the Chaps to get the record under their belt, as the game lasted just an hour and 15 minutes. The Chaps started off the bottom of the first with a string of seven consecutive base hits.  Their first run came off Will Stramp's double to right field leading to two runs scored.  Rob Learned followed doubling down the left field line for a 3-0 advantage.  Jarred Bogany then tripled to centerfield for a run.  A single from Marc Gomez, a double by Chase Robertson, and a ground out by Karlton Banks all resulted in a run giving LCU the 7-0 lead after the first inning.  Four runs in the second inning finished the scoring with Gomez, Armando Dominguez, and Robertson each singling to the outfield for three scores.  Buck Britton brought in the final run of the contest as he reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI.

Nine different LCU players recorded offensive statistics in the early game with Gomez connecting with two hits, two runs, and two RBIs in three at-bats.  James Wallace (8-0) struck out six while allowing only one hit in four innings pitched to earn the win.  Lance Hill (1-1) suffered the loss allowing seven earned runs and nine hits in 1.1 innings of action.

After starting off with a barrage of runs in the first game, three scoreless innings led the way in the second contest.  The game's opening run was not scored until Chaps Vince Bejar hit a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.  The Mustangs responded in the top of the fifth inning with Matt Peoples tying the game with a line drive to left field.  Felix Mejias then fouled out for a sacrifice fly to bring in a run for a 2-1 Mustang lead.  CSW's Eric Hellekson singled to centerfield to make it 3-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, LCU launched their comeback beginning with Will Stramp singling to left field for an RBI.  He scored Buck Britton, who doubled to left field to start the inning.  With the bases loaded and two outs, Mustang pitcher D.J. Gambino walked Dominguez for another score to tie the game at 3-3.  Bejar continued the scoring bringing in two runs after singling to center field on a ball Peoples couldn't catch on a dive.  Robertson extended the lead to 7-3 with a triple to right-center that allowed two runners to reach home plate.  Stramp reached on a fielder's choice for a score, and Learned singled to centerfield for the final RBI of the day for a 9-3 win.  Eleven players recorded offensive statistics in the second game, and Stramp led the way with two runs, three hits, and two RBIs in four at-bats.  On the day Stramp collected four runs, four hits, and four RBIs in seven at-bats.

LCU's Jakob Cunningham (3-0) struck out three while allowing two hits in 2.1 innings of work to gain the win.  Garrett Bertola (0-7) recorded the loss on the mound with one strikeout and allowing four earned runs off four hits in 1.1 innings.

The Chaps head out on the road to Enid, Oklahoma where they will play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 3:00 p.m. against Northwestern Oklahoma State in a Sooner Athletic Conference series.  The games will be broadcasted on LCUChaps.com presented by Partners Financial Group of Lubbock.
