Funeral services for the Lubbock County Constable killed in a horse riding accident will be held Wednesday morning. Tuesday, flags at the Lubbock County Courthouse flew at half-staff to honor the memory and service of Constable Larry Johnson.
Johnson died Sunday, from a head injury. He was riding near Smyer, when the horse bucked him off. Johnson was sworn in as Constable for Precinct 2 in January of 2005. Judge Jim Dulin says Johnson frequently spoke about his love for animals.
"He really enjoyed working with his animals. He had a few calves, and he enjoyed training a few horses. When he spoke of that he kind of got a twinkle in his eye, kind of like talking about his family when he'd do that," Dulin said.
"Larry was very dedicated to his job, very dedicated to his family, very, very strong in his Christian beliefs. The people of Lubbock County suffered a tremendous loss," Dulin added.
Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Bible Baptist Church in Slaton. The church is also accepting memorials in his name:
