Officials Survey Damage Following Grass Fire Near Post

Garza county officials are surveying the damage left after a large grassfire Wednesday.

Gusty winds and dry conditions helped fuel the fire at a ranch near Post. The fire crossed Highway 669, forcing police to close the road for several hours.

Post officials say welding sparks are what started the blaze.

"It started over here on the west side of the highway at the U-Lazy-S Ranch.  I believe there was a welder that was working, it got away from him when the winds picked up," said Michael Isbell, Emergency Management Coordinator.

Crews from Garza, Scurry, Crosby, and Borden Counties helped battle the fire. The Texas Forestry Service also assisted with help from above.
