Two Teens, Three Injured in Prom-night Rollover

A tragic and deadly prom night on the South Plains, and officials say underage drinking and excessive speed may be to blame.

DPS says 18-year-old Nolan Armstrong, of Lockney, lost control of his 2002 Chevy pickup around 5 a.m. Sunday. The truck flipped into a ditch west of Floydada on County Road 91. Four of the five passengers, including Armstrong, were thrown from the vehicle.

It's unknown if they were wearing seat belts.

Two teens from Floydada, 15-year-old freshman Dylan Thomas and 17-year-old senior Tanner Sue, were killed in the rollover.

Drew Carthel, 17, Chris Hayter, 18, and Armstrong were take to a hospital.

Officials are not releasing information about their conditions.

The Lockney High School prom was held last night, though it is unknown if all of the teenagers in the rollover attended the prom.

Floydada ISD will have counselors at the high school Monday to help classmates deal with any emotional issues.
