LISD Mariachi Program Expanded to Lubbock High

The music program at Lubbock High School is expanding.

On Monday, Lubbock ISD announced the newly expanded Mariachi program at Lubbock High School will be eligible to compete in UIL contests in 2009. The Mariachi program started at Cavazos Middle School in 2004. And since then, Lubbock ISD trustee Mario Ybarra has worked to enlarge the program to include Lubbock High.

"We're able to continue the transmission from Cavazos Middle School to the high school," said Ybarra. "Before we didn't have that program, but now it's here at Lubbock High, which is great for those kids who want to learn and keep the music going."

The Mariachi program will be competing in UIL categories for traditional Mariachi and experimental Mariachi. For Your Cell Phone
