When it comes to actually choosing a president, a statewide poll conducted by Texas Tech University shows Texans are staying true to their conservative views.
"The survey found that if the presidential election were held today that Senator John McCain would enjoy comfortable winning margins over both Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton," visiting assistant professor Alan Arwine said.
Monday, Tech's Political Science Department released the results of a recent telephone survey of 507 registered Texas voters.
They say despite near-record turnouts in the state's March Democratic party primary, voters are unwilling to move away from their Republican leanings.
The last Democratic presidential candidate to win Texas was Jimmy Carter in 1976.
