Krista Guerra went to the hospital with a suspicious looking spider bite. Her parents were shocked when blood tests revealed that it wasn't a spider that threatened Krista, but the four year-old has Leukemia.
Now, she is undergoing chemotherapy at the Children's Hospital at UMC -- a treatment that requires lots of transfusions. Unfortunately, United Blood Services is suffering a critical shortage now.
A blood drive has been planned in Krista's name this Saturday in Slaton. The need is so great for blood donations now that UBS has offered to make a $5 donation to the Krista Guerra Medical Fund at Plains National Bank for every donor who gives blood in Krista's name.
The Krista Guerra Blood Drive is Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the United Supermarket in Slaton. All blood types are welcome.
