3D Technology Makes Diagnosing Breast Cancer Easier

3-D ultrasound is making the detection of breast cancer easier to find earlier, even in women with dense breasts who are not good candidates for mammograms.

In the past, breast scans could only show a flat view of the breast tissue but the new 3-D technology shows 500 different views.

Dr. Phil Evans, a radiologist, says, "We can look at those images on a work station and manipulate them, turn them back and forth, up and down, look from side to side, look at the images in 3D -- and allow us to do a very wonderful screening".

Doctors are careful to emphasize that the technology doesn't take the place of the mammogram but supplements the screening.
