A record number of Texas Tech students are now Red Raider alumni. 3,170 students received their diplomas at United Spirit Arena during ceremonies Friday night and Saturday. The large number of graduates prompted the College of Arts and Science to hold its own ceremony for the first time, ever.
In that special ceremony is a special story. Elleta Nolte is part of the class of 2008. So is her granddaughter Rebecca. Elleta is 89. Saturday, both received degrees from Texas Tech.
"It's amazing. It's kind of bizarre," Rebecca said.
"It is kind of bizarre," Elleta said.
"And, really fun, but I get to brag to everyone. They say, oh you're graduating, and I say yeah, with my grandmother and that's just kind of makes it a little weird, but I like it. It's great, it's really great," Rebecca said.
Elleta received a degree in general studies. Rebecca received a degree in English.
