Lubbock police remembered fellow law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty Monday. Monday's ceremony honored 22 Texas peace officers, and 181 federal, state and local law enforcement officers who gave their lives in 2007.
Lubbock police also remembered six local officers killed in line of duty, including Sergeant Kevin Cox. Sergeant Cox was killed in July of 2001. He died of injuries sustained during a standoff in South Lubbock.
Cox's daughter, Heather, said, "He was such a big part in our life. He was the dad that was always there to support the kids in choir practice and that kind of stuff. He's not there one day, you look out at the crowd and he's not there supporting you. I think that's kind of hard. When you lose someone you love dearly, your life is turned around."
This week is also Police Week, a time to recognize the service of all peace officers.
