Gasoline in Lubbock is hovering around $3.70 a gallon Thursday night, but some pumps across the U.S. are already reading over four dollars. It's sticker shock in Chicago as some pumps are at $4.41 a gallon.
Thursday, AAA reported the national average for regular gas is $3.77. With the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, the average is expected to top four dollars. Because of sky high prices, many Americans are rethinking holiday travel plans. However, AAA says some Americans refuse to give up their vacations, with more than 12% celebrating the holiday weekend away from home.
Gas prices are nearly 70 cents a gallon higher than they were this time last year.
