Cards Hold Ceremony for Kile

The St. Louis Cardinals held a 20 minute ceremony on Tuesday night for pitcher Darryl Kile, who died Saturday at the age of 33. Several teammates wept during a brief video tribute to Kile at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals received a lengthy ovation before congregating near home plate for the ceremony. Fans observed 57 seconds of silence for Kile, who wore uniform #57.

Cards chairman Bill DeWitt, Jr. called Kile a great teammate, a great leader, and a wonderful family man. DeWitt called Kile's death an unbearable loss to the Cardinals family. Dozens of former teammates will attend a public memorial service at the stadium for Kile on Wednesday. Jeff Bagwell, Doug Drabek, and Pete Harnisch are scheduled to speak at the service, as are current Cardinals Mike Matheny and Woody Williams.
