Non-Profit Vandalized Overnight

Posted:

Meals on Wheels could not prepare any food Friday because vandals stole the copper piping from their large walk-in freezer. They believe the crime happened Thursday night around 7 p.m. - just after the building was locked up for the night.

The freezer alarm went off indicating the temperature was too high. When a repair crew showed up they discovered the piping was gone and the freon had leaked out.

"I never thought in my wildest dreams that the piping on my building would be something that was going to be vandalized," said Lorrie Bellair, Exec. Dir. of Meals on Wheels.

The thieves only took about 5-feet of copper piping but it's the freon that proved expensive. Meals on wheels says it cost more than $1,500 to replace.

Fortunately, no food was lost and no "Meals on Wheels" recipients will go hungry because of this crime.
