Celery may be more than just a good diet food. New research indicates that there is a compound in celery that may help fight diseases like Alzheimer's.
Researchers tested their celery theory on mice after realizing that the veggie is loaded with Luteolin, an anti-inflammatory compound. Researchers say that compound appears to lower levels of inflammatory molecules in the blood, as well as an area of the brain linked to diseases like Alzheimer's.
Researchers say that more studies are needed, but that Luteolin has potential as a treatment for inflammatory brain conditions. The compound is also found in green peppers.
