It was a crowded playroom Wednesday when about 150 adults showed up to see the toys when UMC unveiled its new Wal-Mart Playroom. It's a high-tech activity center made possible through generous donations to the Children's Miracle Network.
And if you think high-tech toys are not good medicine for kids, listen to this reaction from some who will benefit.
"We just want to thank everyone who donated because your money is going to something that is truly a blessing to our family and I know other families that will get use out of this," said Misty Weddle, the mother of cancer patient with 2 siblings.
"You actually have a TV, a Wii game, an XBox 360, nice computers like this - it's just nice to have your own room where you can hang out. It's a lot better than lying in bed all day, I'll tell you, ‘cause it gets boring laying in bed all day," said Dakota Carroll, a 16-year-old cancer patient.
Dakota spent his time Wednesday in a special section for teens that includes interactive games and computers. And that's part of what makes this playroom so special, it is sectioned off to provide activities for all age levels, while providing a good distraction for patients, a fun way to pass the time for siblings, and overall, a huge relief to parents who may need to bring the whole family to the hospital.
