Near Hurricane Force Winds Rip Through Lubbock

Dozens of calls came into the NewsChannel 11 newsroom from concerned viewers with stories of destruction in yards, on roofs and of downed power lines.

On the 1900 block of 71st several trees landed on roofs. Fire crews say they'll be working into Thursday morning as they clean up the damage left on 71st Street.

While across town a phone pole fell on Avenue A at the Rip Griffin Truck Center. It dangled by one cable above a brand new yellow semi. Both directions of Avenue A were closed down

And over on University and 82nd at the Sudsy Springs Carwash, their roof was ripped off by the winds. It fell into the street diverting traffic around the mess Lubbock Police, Lubbock Fire and LP&L crews all responded to this mess.
