Rangers Sign #1 Pick

The Texas Rangers' #1 pick has signed a contract just days after his last college game. South Carolina standout Drew Meyer can't wait to get his professional career started. Meyer will report this weekend to Class A Savannah of the South Atlantic League, where he'll play shortstop. Meyer's contract was signed on Wednesday after he completed a physical.

Meyer says that he likes playing the game every day and doesn't think there's any reason to take days off. The Rangers didn't release contract terms, but Meyer reportedly got a signing bonus of more than $1.5 million. For now, Meyer will play shortstop, the position where he starred at South Carolina. The University of Texas last weekend beat South Carolina for the title in the College World Series.
