What a day it was for the LCU Lady Chaps softball team. After winning three games in a seven hour time span Wednesday to capture the NAIA title, Thursday they returned home.
Arriving at the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport at 11:30 a.m., they received a police escort from there to the Lubbock Christian University campus for a championship welcome home ceremony as they proudly displayed their championship banner.
In their first season of playing, they are the champs and they loved the support coming home
"It was great, our girls were just giddy about it. On the bus coming over, just watching the police the whole time, they were amazed with them and we're just really appreciative of them doing that for us. And then people pulling off the on the side of the roads and getting out of their cars and waving - it was great," said LCU Head Coach Shanon Hays.
"You know, right after we won we went crazy and everything, but coming back home to Lubbock all these supporters and fans everywhere, it just made it so much better," said LCU senior pitcher Marissa Gonzalez.
