City of Lubbock Offices Closed for Holiday; Memorial Day Services at City Cemetery

City of Lubbock offices will be closed Monday, May 26, 2008, in observance of Memorial Day. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, May 27.

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, Monday's regularly scheduled trash pickup will occur on Tuesday.  Regularly scheduled pickups for Tuesday will occur on Wednesday.

Emergency services will continue without interruption.

The Sixth Annual Memorial Day Service, hosted by the Nancy Anderson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Post 575, and the City of Lubbock Cemetery, will be held Monday, May 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. City Council member Floyd Price will be the featured speaker, and Judge Sam Medina will give the Invocation for this year's patriotic event. The City of Lubbock Cemetery is located at 2011 East 31st  Street, and the public is invited to attend.

American Legion Post 575 is providing small American flags to be placed on Veterans Administration Memorial gravesites. Attendees with a loved one who is a veteran are also encouraged to place an American flag at that person's gravesite. There are more than 2,000 veterans buried at City of Lubbock Cemetery.

Seating is limited, and the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for the ceremony.
