Do you get an arm workout when you read a restaurant menu, moving it close and then further away?
For many the solution is drug store glasses, but they may not be right for everyone. The American Optometric Association says that is Mother Nature's way of telling you it's time to get your eyes checked.
Dr. Andrea Thau, of the American Optometric Association, says, "That's the reason why you need glasses around age 40. That's when you have a greater likelihood of having certain eye problems and diseases like glaucoma. By wearing the wrong prescription, it can cause eyestrain, headaches, and decreased visual efficiency. And the only way to know whether or not they are the right prescription for you is to have your eyes examined and undergo a comprehensive eye exam."
The AOA says drug store glasses may seem like a quick fix but sometimes they can hide a bigger problem. Each eye may need a different prescription; there may be eye coordination issues, or a stigmatism, which those glasses do not address.
