Some high school students have been approved for automatic admission into Texas Tech's Honors College. Normally students have to go through an application process to get into the college. On Tuesday, Texas Tech recognized students in Lubbock High School's International Baccalaureate program as having the necessary requirements for the school.
Dean of the Honors College Gary Bell says, "These IB students are extraordinary students. They had the academic educational preparation that we know to make them successful in college."
In the IB program, students complete six exams, a Philosophy class, 4,000 word research paper and 150 hours of volunteer work.
Lubbock High School Principal Doyle Vogler says the Honors College puts students on the right track for acceptance into medical and law schools.
