Lubbock Police say an Oklahoma man will most likely face murder charges after his wife died over the weekend.
Arthur Dean Swagger, 37, remains in Lubbock County Jail. Police say he severely beat and then sexually assaulted his wife last Monday morning at the Motel 6 on 66th Street and I-27. Joy Swagger died at University Medical Center on Saturday.
Investigators are now working with the district attorney's office to upgrade the charges to murder. Swagger is also accused of hitting the couple's 5-year-old son. The boy and his 3-year-old sister are in protective custody.
