A Hockley County jury convicted 24-year-old Christopher Mills of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Thursday. It took the jury less than an hour to find Mills guilty of the attack on his then girlfriend last March.
Mills stabbed 20-year old Ariel Walden in a parking lot south of the Texan Dome on the South Plains College campus. Witnesses say the two were arguing when Mills went to his truck, grabbed a knife, and stabbed Walden several times. Mills then stabbed himself twice in the throat.
Due to enhancements to his charges Mills faces up to life in prison. The punishment phase began immediately after the verdict was read Thursday. It will resume Friday when the trial is expected to wrap up.
