Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks' $105 million gamble hasn't paid off yet. The Rangers are still in last place in the American League West.
Hicks supplied the cash and new GM John Hart did the dealing to put together baseball's third highest payroll. But for the third year in a row, the Rangers go into the second half of the season with no realistic chance of making the playoffs.
Hicks says they've had bad luck and injuries. Texas is 39 - 47 and 15 games behind Seattle.
The Rangers have 21 games before the trading deadline. Of those, 18 are against contending teams, starting on Thursday at Minnesota.
All-Star shortstop Alex Rodriguez is the only Ranger to play in all 85 games. He's hitting .305 and leads the AL with 27 homers and 73 RBI's.
