Power Restored to Xcel Customers

Power has been restored to more than 16,000 customers Wednesday night.

Xcel Energy says a problem caused 20 substations in Texas and New Mexico, including six in Lubbock, to go offline around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Xcel first reported 9,000 customers had been affected, but new estimates have nearly doubled that number. Most of the power was restored by midnight. It is not known what caused the outage.
