Obesity researchers have discovered what may be a key player in the body's ability or inability to deal with fat. The scientists were studying the fat regulating hormone Leptin when they discovered a metabolic switch that appears to tell the body to either store the fat or burn it.
The switch is an enzyme that affects the way Leptin helps process fat in the liver. Researchers say the findings will help them better understand factors that affect the body's ability to burn fat and could lead to better ways to treat obesity. The study is published in the journal Science.
