Animal Shelter Board Approves Pet Store Inspections

Posted:

Animal lovers can now rest assured that the pets adopted here in Lubbock, will be healthy.

The Animal Shelter Advisory Board unaminously approved forms for pet store inspections Tuesday.

Animal Services Director Kevin Overstreet says the inspections will be carried out similar to restaurant inspections. "We'll be looking for things like cleanliness, air flow, how many times a day the dogs been fed, proper care things of that nature," said Overstreet.  "We're going out to make sure that they are getting healthy animals adopted out to them. The animals they are adopting are being well cared for."

Pet stores and grooming services will undergo inspections once a year.
