Update on Near Fatal Drowning

A backyard pool was the scene of the near drowning in the 1900 block of 63rd street. Police say it was just after 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon when family members pulled a three year old little girl from the pool.

Neighbor Jackie Delgado was involved in her summer yard sale when she heard screaming from across the street.

"We saw the ambulance and cops and we figured out what was going on," Delgado said.

It turns out the three year old and her mother don't own the pool. They were just visiting and Delgado says the three year old was unattended when the incident took place.

"They told us that the kids and everyone was asleep in the house. They three year old and 2 year old when to the back and go in the pool," Delgado added.

NewsChannel 11 spoke to a family member Saturday over the phone about the near drowning. The family was just on their way to the hospital but they did say the three year old is breathing, and that "she will make it."

Meantime, Lubbock police say there is still an active investigation into this near drowning but no charges have been filed.
