There are thousands of South Plains residents who have served in the Armed Forces during other conflicts and time of peace and those who fought for freedom.
Located at 82nd and Nashville, in Huneke Park, the Lubbock Area Veterans Memorial was completed in 2003. It was created by the American Legion George S. Berry Post 575 and Auxiliary.
The center portion of the memorial commemorates veterans from the South Plains who were killed in action during World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. To either side, is an area honoring living or deceased members of the Armed Forces.
