A Lubbock teen is dead following a rollover in north Lubbock. The confrontation began when a an officer stopped Leondrick Hastings, 19, around 1 am Tuesday in the 2400 block of Erskine Street.
Police dashcam video shows the officer standing along side a dark colored Jeep Cherokee, and talking to a man who said his name was Hastings. She gave him several instructions, as she used her radio to request a check of Hastings' warrants. That's when the SUV sped off, and the officer lost sight of the vehicle.
Lubbock Police found the vehicle again about 30 minutes later. It was overturned in a field at Erskine Street and Avenue P.
Hastings was pinned beneath the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene. A passenger in the SUV fled before police arrived.
The investigation into this case is ongoing.
