Former Houston Cougar Coach up for Hall of Fame Induction

Former University of Houston basketball coach Guy Lewis is getting a little support from current and former coaches in his bid for the Basketball Hall of Fame. Texas Tech's Bob Knight and former UTEP coach Don Haskins are among the coaches expected in Houston on September 23rd to build support for Lewis' bid. They will attend an event that is being hosted by the Houston Athletic Committee.

Lewis has been nominated to the Hall of Fame a number of times, but his name was put on the ballot only once. That was in 1995, and he didn't get enough votes.

He is now under consideration for induction by the veterans committee of the Hall of Fame. That committee can induct only one person each year.

In 30 years at Houston, Lewis had 27 winning seasons. The architect of the Phi Slamma Jamma is now 80 and is recovering from a stroke he suffered in February.
