Three-Year-Old Drowning Victim Removed from Life Support

Posted:

Now to a tragic development to a story NewsChannel 11 has been following since Friday. The three year old Lubbock girl who fell into a backyard pool has died, according to family members.

Amari Danielle Mendoza was taken off life support after tests revealed she was brain dead. Police say Amari wandered into the backyard of a home in the 1900 block of 63rd Street Friday afternoon and climbed into the pool. Witnesses told police that adults inside the home were asleep at the time. Family members pulled the girl out of the water, and performed CPR until help arrived.

Family members want to remind parents to take extra precaution with their children around water. "My advice to everybody that has pools out there, if you're going to go get a pool for your children, make sure you're there. Take responsibility of what you get for your children. Not to ruin their fun or summer, just make sure you're there with your children. Don't let this happen to any other children anymore," says the little girl's aunt Ester Rojas.

A memorial fund has been set up to help with funeral expenses. Donations can be made at any Compass Bank location.
