Consider This... Revisit Visitor Center Plan

My family and I recently vacationed in San Antonio and visited a few of their great attractions. I'll admit we had our trip planned in advance and never sought out the visitor center. But while touring the Alamo, I noticed the San Antonio Visitor Center across the street.

Now San Antonio boasts one of the most popular tourist destinations in the U.S. with the Alamo, and an array of arts and entertainments venues that boost the economy every year. So when I saw the San Antonio Visitor's Center, I was curious and checked it out. I snapped some photos of a nice looking building with moderate amenities, and no bigger than about 1000 square feet. Oh, did I mention other than the paid staff, the building was empty?  That's because people were at the Alamo or the River Walk, not the Visitor Center.

Consider this; once again I am calling on city leaders to do something about that empty lot in downtown Lubbock. The past city council paid too much money for that property and took a private business off the tax rolls.

Lubbock has a lot to offer any visitor. Like the Silent Wings Museum, Ranching Heritage Center, Texas Tech football, and the Buddy Holly museum, just to name a few. I say put the visitor center in the Buddy Holly Center like first planned, and sell the land to the private sector and put it back on the city tax rolls.

Lubbock doesn't need to spend millions on a building or move an existing home that will just cost more money to maintain. And hopefully, we won't have to learn what San Antonio already knows: it's the city's attractions that bring visitors, not a visitor center.
