Lightning strike caused Lubbock experienced a massive power outage on Monday evening. It happened just before 10:30pm and affected Lubbock Power and Light customers throughout the city. LP&L Director, Paul Thompson, says the outage occurred when due to a high voltage interface between Excel and LP&L.
Power was restored in stages, and completed just before midnight.
All but one of the bars in the Depot District lost electricity. Hub City Brewery, held their customers for more than an hour. Without computers to total tabs, management was reluctant to allow people to leave, until Lubbock Police intervened.
Most Depot District customers flocked to Whiskey River, the only establishment not affected by the outage. The bar was so busy, management says they were running out of alcohol.
