Pre-Planning Your Funeral

Death is not something we like to think about, but it is something we have to face. Gary White is the Director and Manager of White Funeral Home. He helps service families facing the inevitable-death. White says, "These are difficult decisions, but they can be made so much easier if you have some ideas."

Pre-planning your funeral may help resolve problems that live long after you are gone. Funerals cost anywhere from $38,000 to $58,000, so freezing the costs may help out your relatives. It will also let friends and families deal with their grief instead of the fine details.

White explains, "Families are constantly saying to me, this is such a relief, knowing this is done, we don't have to worry about it. Planning your own funeral will also spare the problems that the Ted Williams family is facing right now. Williams' daughter wants his remains cremated but his son wants the body frozen, but pre-planning can help avoid those types of debates. This way it's very cut and dried. These were my requests. These are the things I want and I want them carried out."

If you don't pre-plan your funeral, you still need to make your wishes known. White says, "Make your wishes known to somebody. Write them down, sign them and date them." White adds that all pre-needs are flexible and transferable. So, if you want to make changes you can.
