For the Dallas Cowboys, the journey back from a pair of 5 - 11 seasons begins in a sizzling parking lot on the outskirts of downtown San Antonio. At their month-long training camp that opens on Friday, the Cowboys will tune up their running, hitting, passing, and catching on a natural grass field rolled out on the asphalt outside the Alamodome.
The field is humbly tucked between railroad tracks and a freeway, but that's not stopping local boosters from promoting it along with the Alamo and the city's other top attractions. Still, there's little to suggest the city of 1.1 million people is all that excited about the arrival of the Cowboys.
In fact, the buzz around the downtown hotels is about video games not football games. A computer graphics and animation convention this week has brought in about 20,000 people.
