We are learning more about Patrick Deshean Brown or "Doc" Pat Brown as he was known to the students and faculty at Lubbock-Cooper High School. Brown turned himself in through his attorney to Lubbock Police just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Brown is currently behind bars at the Lubbock County Jail charged with sexual assault.
That alleged incident was reported to the Lubbock Sheriff's Office back in April by the young girl who says Brown sexually assaulted her. At the time she was 16-years-old and attending Lubbock-Cooper High School. She is now 21 years-old.
Wednesday evening we spoke with Lubbock-Cooper Superintendent Pat Henderson. Because of the on-going investigation and the sensitivity of this situation Henderson couldn't speak on camera or tell us much but he did say Brown was with the Lubbock-Cooper School District for 11 years before this investigation started in April of this year. At one time Brown was a health teacher but for the past three years he was the district's head trainer. Henderson also said he was well liked by all.
We sat down with Major Don Carter with the Lubbock Sheriff's Department. I asked about the time table involved in this case. The alleged events took place in 2003, but it wasn't reported until April of this year. Carter says that length of time isn't uncommon.
"Sometimes those are the types of cases that come to us late because of counseling or something that comes up that they feel they just need to go and report it," said Carter.
We have learned that Brown resigned from Lubbock-Cooper effective the end of this past school year. But Brown stopped working for the district as soon as the investigation started on April 11th.
Up-next for Brown is a grand-jury hearing as he awaits indictment for sexual assault. We of course will continue to track this case to bring you any updates.
