With all the issues leading to the hiring of a new Chief, NewsChannel 11 wanted to know what the citizens of Lubbock thought, so we went to the streets to find out.
"I think it would've been better if they'd hired someone outside of the department."
"I think it's great. I don't know him personally, but I've been around him. I practice law, and I've been around his reputation and I think he's well liked by other policemen."
"I think it's good we picked a local person for the job. He has a lot of history with the department, which I think will bring a lot of experience."
"I think it's great. He's been doing a pretty good job as Interim Chief. He's from here. He's spent a lot of time in Lubbock at the police department, and I think he's the right choice."
"He has the tenure on the force and all of them know him, and he knows all of them, so he'll come in and clean house."
Overall, the people of Lubbock that NewsChannel 11 talked to thought that with all the changes the police department has gone through, an internal candidate was the best choice for stability.
