Celeste Hoehne of the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission says too many people and restaurants are disposing of their greasy foods incorrectly. She says grease is the number one problem of plugged sewer lines in Lubbock, and guess who's paying for it? "Tax payers. You and I do. If we can go ahead reduce the problem now, we'd all be better off in the long run. Lines won't have to be replaced more often, nor run as often and that's going to save the taxpayer dollar."
Hoehne says you should scrape all grease into the garbage, not the dispose-all, and rinse your dishes with cold water. The TNRCC is also working with restaurants to make sure they all have a grease trap installed.
