Police arrested two people Thursday who they believe were involved in several home burglaries in Lubbock. Ann Marie Martinez and Steven Pena are both charged with multiple accounts of burglary.
Police recovered more than 150 stolen items ranging from clothes to electronics and furniture from a house on 15th Street. Police received a tip earlier this month that several possibly stolen items were sold from this residence. They investigated the property and determined that many of the items were reported as stolen. After obtaining a search warrant they seized all of the stolen property. It took two trailers and three pick up loads to transport all of the stolen items.
The items recovered solved at least four cases of home burglary in the area. In some of those cases the homes were completely cleaned out.
Lubbock police say a recovery like this is rather unusual. "Extremely rare. I'd say less than three to four percent of the properties are ever actually recovered," said Captain Greg Stevens.
Both Martinez and Pena face two to 20 years and up to a $10,000 fine for each count of burglary they're charged with. Police suspect other people were involved in the burglaries, so there may be more arrests connected to this investigation.
