When it comes to family planning, some men choose to get a vasectomy where the tubes that carry the sperm are cut and blocked. It's a fairly quick and easy procedure. But just like when you go to the dentist, a needle delivers the anesthetic. After that it's pain free.
But did you know some doctors today are using a technique that does away with the needle altogether? The no-needle vasectomy delivers the anesthetic through a high powered air injector.
Dr. Aaron Spitz, a urologist says, "it's basically an air pump. The anesthetic is placed in this chamber here. The device is cocked which increases the pressure in the chamber. And then I simply place this end against the tissue and fire it."
Vasectomy patient Matt Brown adds, "You feel nothing and everything is numb. And he goes to work and before you know it he is completed."
The air injector administers the medicine as a fine spray at a very high pressure right through the skin, deep into the tissues. Dr. Spitz says with no bleeding, the procedure is even easier and quicker. If you're interested, ask your doctor or urologist about the no-needle vasectomy.
